The Breastplate of Righteousness; It Is A Gift

“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.
.....and the body armor (the Breastplate) of God’s righteousness.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:10-11, 14‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Righteousness (right standing) simply tells us where we stand with God. There are two kinds of right standing. One is self righteousness. This is where our right standing with God comes from our own efforts to be perfect. In other words we work for it, we earn it. The other form of right standing is one that comes from God alone. In God's eyes the best and only form of Righteousness that we should pursue, is righteousness that comes from him alone.

“Abraham was, humanly speaking, the founder of our Jewish nation. What did he discover about being made right with God
If his good deeds had made him acceptable to God, he would have had something to boast about. But that was not God’s way. For the Scriptures tell us, “Abraham believed God, and God counted him as righteous because of his faith.”
When people work, their wages are not a gift, but something they have earned. But people are counted as righteous, not because of their work, but because of their faith in God who forgives sinners.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭4:1-5‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Abraham was made right with God. As you an see in the scriptures above, it had nothing to do with what Abraham had done. "Abraham believed God and God counted Him as righteous". All Abraham did was believe.

But even greater is God’s wonderful grace and his gift of righteousness, for all who receive it will live in triumph over sin and death through this one man, Jesus Christ.”
‭‭Romans‬ ‭5:17‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The best way for us to have this right standing with God is to simply receive it. When we accept Christ as our Lord and Saviour we are given right standing. It is a gift! Because this right standing is a gift it will never be taken away. No matter what we do we can't lose it. With self righteousness every time we are not perfect we lose our right standing with God.

We have been given two ways to achieve right standing. One way is to earn it through our own efforts. And the other way is receive it as a gift through what Christ did on the cross. In God's eyes the best way is to simply receive it. If we do choose to simply receive it, then, where we stand with God will never waver. No matter what we do we will be acceptable to God.
