The Belt of Truth Part 1

“A final word: Be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. Put on all of God’s armor so that you will be able to stand firm against all strategies of the devil.

Therefore, put on every piece of God’s armor so you will be able to resist the enemy in the time of evil. Then after the battle you will still be standing firm. Stand your ground, putting on the belt of truth and the body armor of God’s righteousness. For shoes, put on the peace that comes from the Good News so that you will be fully prepared. In addition to all of these, hold up the shield of faith to stop the fiery arrows of the devil. Put on salvation as your helmet, and take the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. Pray in the Spirit at all times and on every occasion. Stay alert and be persistent in your prayers for all believers everywhere.”
‭‭Ephesians‬ ‭6:10-11, 13-18‬ ‭NLT‬‬

Okay so we've been talking the last couple of weeks about the armor of God. If you missed any of the teachings you can go back and read them here. There Is A Fight, Preparing For Battle, Living From Victory To Victory , and Hide It Away Or read the recap that I did here What We've Learned So Far. Now that a foundation has been laid lets begin learning about the armor. What is the first piece of armor?
The Belt of Truth

I don't know about you but I think having a belt get first billing when listing important pieces of armor seems a little strange. Actually, believe it or not, the Belt of Truth is the most important piece of armor. How do I know this? One of the coolest things about the Word of God (the Bible) is that it tells you up front what God deems important by placing something in first place. (For those interested this is called the law of first mention.) So the very fact that the Belt of Truth is placed first means that God deems it as paramount. Why is it so important?

“And you will know the truth, and the truth will set you free.””
‭‭John‬ ‭8:32‬ ‭NLT‬‬

The truth is important because as the above scripture reads, with it we walk in freedom. For example, what if one day you woke up with horrible symptoms and the doctor diagnosed you with an incurable and life threatening disease. Can you imagine how that would make you feel and act? Your whole world would change. Now what would happen if that same doctor called you back and said I'm sorry you were misdiagnosed? In fact you're not dying at all and what you are sick with is easily treated. I would imagine the difference in your demeanor would be like night and day. Can you see why God places such an importance on knowing the truth? And how dangerous it can be if we don't know it?

On Wednesday we are going to discuss how the enemy uses our lack of knowing complete truth to keep us living a life that is less then Gods best. It is only through knowing total truth that we walk in victory.

Be Blessed
